The changing ABCs of management information system & competitiveness
Currently, a management information system (MIS) is a key element for a company's competitiveness. In this digital and cloud computing period, companies must implement these processes to know and predict business ecosystems. MIS are a group of tools that must provide the business executives indicators, tendencies, feedback and critical paths to reach the objectives of each area. Therefore, you should make decisions with the support of quality information.
It is necessary to have control and supervision through the MIS to get cash flows, payroll calculations, SKU (Stock-keeping unit) number tracking, client's databases, sales results, and recruitment; among other daily and common business activities. Currently, how many businesses executives do you think take key company decisions domestically, internationally or globally, without considering some type of report, tendency or analysis?
There is no fixed path, there is no ABC when talking about MIS, but there are tools that can help companies whether they are small, medium or large to reach their goals.
We invite you to read our seventh edition of Border Link, Beyond boundaries, and learn more on recent perspectives related to information, technology and management. We believe the information will help you identify opportunities to improve competitiveness.
Regarding data management, please read our article on the Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data held by Private Parties and Individuals, its implications and impact. Also, consult the flash titled Withholding Value Added Tax (IVA, for its acronym in Spanish), from foreign residents based on transfers performed through IMMEX (Industria Manufacturera, Maquiladora y de Servicios de Exportación) entities and other effects.
In our Business Hub Section, you will be able to review Deloitte's 3rd Quarter Global Economic Outlook. In this document, it is believed that, in general, the economy is going at a constant speed, at a slow phase. Dr. Ira Kalish, Deloitte's Global Director for Economics, debates in that paper the following statement: "whether the United States is headed for a double-dip or simply a soft landing regarding its economy." We invite you to read the complete report and analysis.
Please review the GDP metric: Time for a makeover?, and the 2011 Midyear Outlook for the Global Aerospace and Defense Sector. Get to know new tendencies in IT and mobile devices: Will smarter phones make for smarter shoppers? A path forward for consumer product companies.
Although there is not a specific path for competitiveness in this digital era, there is a strong link between applications, business, communications, and databases. You can start your own ABC process related to MIS considering your business needs, objectives and plans, whether you are in a small, medium or large company. Contact us to know how we can help you.

GDP metric:
Time for a makeover?
Gross domestic product, or GDP, has long been regarded as the principal measure of economic activity. Conceptually, GDP measures the value of goods and services produced in the economy. The change in GDP over time is used as an indicator of economic growth. Since economic performance is directly linked to consumption and employment, the GDP of a country is often regarded as a proxy indicator of human development and the well-being of its citizens. However, given substantive changes in the structure of the economy, the question remains – is GDP still an adequate measure of economic welfare?

What's ahead in Manufacturing? Aerospace
2011 Midyear outlook for the global aerospace and defense sector
A new report by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited's (DTTL) Global Manufacturing Industry Group, 2011 Midyear outlook for the global aerospace and defense sector, indicates a sense of unease in defense and optimism in commercial aerospace.
According to the report, it is anticipated that there will be an upswing in sales and production in commercial aircraft, principally due to the popularity of single-aisle aircrafts, for which rate increases have been announced. With the introduction of new single-aisle manufacturers, as well as next generation twin-aisle commercial aircraft products, suppliers worldwide are expected to increase production.
