Looking into the future
Weilai (未来) means future in Chinese, ...it is a key point of their culture, and for many Chinese, the reason of our existence. With that in mind, China has definitely had a high display of weilai lately. |

This month there were several conferences and expositions setup for the Chinese to look into Latin America, focusing on Mexico and Brazil. Many Chinese companies and SOEs (State Owned Enterprises) are looking at the west for future business. It makes sense that Mexico would be a key player for them as the country is logistically a strategic spring board to North and South America. With 44 tax treaties (second with the most in the world), excellent skilled workers, and safety standards similar to the ones in the US, China is looking at Mexico as a test market for their future endeavors.
Deloitte will be having this month its Global CSG internal meeting, and we can assure you that Mexico has now became a top five priority for the Global China Firm. Some examples of the growing interest in the area are: the Latin America Investors Conference in Beijing had more attendees than any other North American Countries related conferences; the China-Latin American Conference in Chengdu had over 500 attendees who were all interested in Latin America; the Energy Investment Seminar in Mexico brought forth companies in the energy sector who wanted to enter China; and let’s not forget the world expo, where our beautiful country, Mexico, displayed amazing culture, technology and the spirit of its people.
It seems that everywhere you turn; China and Chinese businesspeople are looking at Mexico as the future. Are you ready? Are you ready for the cultural differences that exist between these two great nations? Are you ready for the different ways of doing business? Knowing these key issues makes the difference between having a successful business venture or a negative one. Allow Deloitte’s Chinese Services Group to help you.
